In 2009 Deutsche Grammophon celebrated its 111th birthday – a number with particular significance in music circles ever since Beethoven composed his final piano sonata Opus 111.
What we do to celebrate this important day
Ever since Beethoven wrote his last piano sonata and called it opus 111, the number 111 has enjoyed a certain kudos in musical circles – of which we are proud to take advantage, as Deutsche Grammophon celebrates its 111th anniversary in 2009. 111 years is a lot of history, and we have tried to squeeze into an array of products – both on CD (also available as download) and on DVD – the “flavour” of the label, and to give an idea of its culture over 11 decades. The philosophy has always been “The greatest recordings by the greatest artists in the world”

This unique limited-edition, specially priced collection of 55 CDs contains landmark recordings from DG’s past to present. Most titles are as originally programmed, in their original cover-art and feature artists from Claudio Abbado to Krystian Zimerman – and span musical genres from Monteverdi to Pärt.
